A traditional sparkling style using Chardonnay/Pinot Noir is complemented with an Australian classic, Sparkling Shiraz. Both are made using the traditional Charmat method.

The story of the blü hen Series begins with the journey of Mudgee Winemaker Jacob Stein to the great wine regions of the world, on a quest to develop his winecraft . Weaving into his rich family tapestry of winemaking and balancing it with his personal passion for innovation, an idea blooms. 

Working together with his talented winery and vineyard team at Robert Stein, he creates a range of innovative, vibrant, beautifully-balanced and tantalising new styles of Mudgee wines. 

And so the blü hen Series begins..... 

The Stein family has a long history with Riesling, dating back to 1838 and among the first to successfully plant the variety in Australia. Nowadays it is the family flagship variety, with three Riesling styles being made most years.

The Dry, Half Dry and Reserve Rieslings are made from fruit off our vineyard which was planted in 1976, along with fruit sourced from numerous vineyards in Mudgee, including the Historic Miramar vineyard.

Both Jacob and Lisa have a natural affinity with Riesling, having both worked in Germany over numerous vintages.

Since 2008, The Robert Stein Riesling range has won over 50 gold medals and 30 trophies at numerous local, national and international wine shows.

A recent big win was our 2009 Riesling winning the prestigious ‘Best Australian Museum Riesling’ at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge in 2016 and 2019.

The Premium Range is produced from the premium grade fruit grown on the property and selected Mudgee vineyards, offering outstanding quality and wines that also age well if given the chance .

The Reserve Range of wines are produced using the best fruit off the Robert Stein Vineyard, often from the older vineyard blocks. Naturally fermented (no commercial yeasts used) to reflect the outstanding quality of the vineyard, reflect the rich, complex flavours, characteristics which the Mudgee Region offers. 

The Farm Series range is our entry level range offering great value for money. The Farm Series label caricatures were created by local Mudgee artist, Sam Paine, and reflect the animals we have on the farm here in Mudgee. 

The sweeter end of the night wines which range from Botrytis Semillon, a true dessert wine, through to the fortified Rum Cask Tawny.
