Robert Stein Vineyard and Stein's Wines

The Robert Stein Philosophy

winemaker Michael Slater with Robert Stein Ask our resident winemaker, Michael Slater where the potential lies in the Robert Stein range of wines and he'll tell you, "It's in the vineyard".

Our 25-year-old vines are producing fruit of amazing concentration and intensity which is the basis of Michael's wine making.

Michael, who shares his own birth year with the establishment of the Robert Stein Vineyard, returns to Mudgee after recently completing his Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University, Wagga. There's no doubt his enthusiasm and fresh approach has made a big difference to the quality of our wines. Michael likes to let the grapes do the talking, allowing the fruit to express itself through his winemaking.

His personal favourite is the shiraz, for its good fruit depth and richness but he's a big fan of the gewurztraminer as well, owing to its distinct varietal character and finesse.

There's no doubt 2002 has been an excellent year for Mudgee reds but when it comes to white wine production it's attention to detail that counts.

Our fruit is picked at its optimum flavour, which is carefully maintained through to the end product. So whether it's a red or white which you prefer, we can all look forward to some excellent wines from the Robert Stein Vineyard.
