There have been some exciting developments over the last few months since our last newsletter, another multiple award winning Riesling with our 2009 vintage to follow on from our 2008 and the continuing family tradition with Jacob Stein starting as our winemaker, read on for more and info on our September Wine Festival events and new release wines...

Mudgee Wine Festival - Sept 12 to Oct 4
September is Wine Festival Time in Mudgee and there is a packed calendar of events, start planning your trip today so you can take full advantage of the festival in 2009. We have a few functions on at the winery, with lunch every weekend.

Every Saturday and Sunday - Noon to 2pm
Alfresco “dining on the deck”
Try an open steak sandwich on baguette, antipasto plate, rocket salad, Italian sausage or minestrone soup with a roll.  Coffee/ Tea and tiramisu or cannoli.

INSIDE WINE
“Inside Wine” at Robert Stein Winery will take guests on a guided tour of their own senses, led by the resident winemaker and a local sommelier.
Awaken your senses to the tastes and smells of fine wine and learn to appreciate what separates the great wines from the good.  Seated at a long table among the barrels, guests will sample a range of wines and taste the food flavours that can be identified by a properly trained palate.  Read more about this event...


Third Generation Begins
January 2009 marked the exciting beginning of the third generation at the Robert Stein Winery. Robert ‘Bob’ Steins Grandson, Jacob, has returned to Mudgee to become the family winemaker. Andrew Stein said it is great having Jacob return and implement the experience he has had in the industry. Jacob completed his Viticulture and Winemaking Degree in 2005, and has been a travelling winemaker for the past 4 years.

Jacob has managed to fit 5 destinations into his travels, following the Grape Harvest from Southern Hemisphere to Northern Hemisphere. Starting in Pyrenees Victoria, then to Germany in the Rheingau and Rheinhessen regions making great Riesling, also Canada, Italy, Margaret River for Ultra Premium Moss Wood Winery in 2008.

2009 Robert Stein Riesling

2007 Robert Stein Sangiovese

2008 Robert Stein Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Pale yellow with green hues and showing lifted grassy, passionfruit and citrus characters on the nose. The palate is fresh and vibrant with citrus and tropical fruit characters and crisp acidity to finish. A lively and fruit driven wine that demonstrates the synergy between these two varieties.
